......and one more very important thing.....a debt of thanks!

The pot holes in the access track have been kindly mended courtesy of Tim Wall just prior to the Christmas period.  This benefits us all and we owe a debt of graditude to Tim for this.   Tim not only provided the materials but organised the labour too.  Next time you see him please show your appreciation.

Anyone fancy a fly-in on New Years Eve Saturday 31st December?  Well Tim will do bacon sandwiches to raise money for the club if you fancy it.  PRE-ORDERING is essential.  Please ring Tim to order your WMMFC sandwich up front! Check out the weather and blow those cobwebs away......

From the BMFA .......

Electric Fixed Wing Aircraft ....

The BMFA have recently issued "The 2010 BMFA Member's Handbook Corrections and Additions Addendum Booklet".  In it is worth the mention of a new paragraph (l) in section 42 column 1, Electroflight.  Renumber Paragraph (l) to (m).  It says...

(l) The setting of the failsafe to, as a minimum, reduce the engine(s) speed to idle, obviously applies to all electric models too.  However, given the ability to re-start the motor(s) at will, it makes sense to have the faiksafe cut the motor(s) completely.  This will give you the desired 'minimum power' situation and will avoid you having to decide on what idle speed you might need to set.

Rotary WIng Aircraft ....

There is also news of the BMFA allowing the use of metal rotor blades on helicopters under limited circumstances.   For a number of years metal rotor blades have been porhibitied by the CAA (CAP 658) and the BMFA handbook.   This put the use of metal rotor blades outside the scope of the insurance provided as part of the BMFA membeship package.

Following discussion with the CAA, the BMFA has now obtained permission for the limited use of metal blades under the following conditions.

1. Minimum airframe weight of 7kg.

2. Non aerobatic flight only.

3. Origin of the blade to be specified.

4. Material specification to be provided.

5. Ongoing monitoring.

6. With permissions granted individually by the CAA through the BMFA head office.

7. Twelve month review by the BMFA Technical Council.

Further details and application forms are available from the BMFA head office.

The above is contained in the December 2011 issue 109 edition of your BMFA News.
